Star Repair Pricing

High-Speed Handpiece Rebuilds From $129

Star 430 turbine rebuild: bearings, chuck and O-rings replaced — sealed bearings on a Lube Free head, lubricated on an SWL, never the other way round.

Low-Speed Attachments From $145

Titan II and III low-speed heads stripped to the gear train, rebuilt, and run under load so worn gears show up on our bench rather than in your operatory.

Electric Handpieces From $229

Star 1:5 AC electric attachment: gears, bearings and seals renewed, then speed and torque verified against the motor it runs on.

Common Star Handpiece Repair Issues We Fix

The 430 Lube Free is engineered never to be oiled, and that is the single thing we most often see shorten a good Star head. Oil it once and the sealed ceramic bearings are compromised. It is not a weakness in the design — it is a maintenance mismatch, and it usually happens because the lubricated SWL and the Lube Free look near enough identical on the tray. If you are not certain which you have, tell us and we will identify it before we touch it.

Star dental handpiece repair - 430 high speed, Titan low speed and 1:5 AC electric attachment

Lube-Free Head Oiled by Mistake

The most common Star problem we see is not a failure at all, it is a maintenance mismatch. Lube-free 430 heads run sealed bearings, and oil introduced from an automatic lubricator or a shared line contaminates them and shortens life dramatically. We strip and service them dry, as designed.

Turbine Bearing Wear

Star turbines run at high RPM and the bearings are the wear item. A rising pitch or new vibration through the grip is the early warning. Caught then it is a bearing job; left alone the movement damages the chuck seat and the whole head needs rebuilding.

Titan Gear Wear

On the Titan II and III the gear train wears gradually, so torque bleeds away rather than failing outright. Most practices adapt without noticing until prophy takes noticeably longer. We rebuild the gears and test under load rather than free-spinning on the bench.

Chuck Not Releasing the Bur

Dried debris and a tired collet spring make the chuck progressively harder to open until it grips permanently. Forcing it damages the collet. We strip, clean and replace the chuck assembly so it releases cleanly again.

Loss of Cutting Power

A Star head that spins freely in air but bogs down in dentin has usually lost turbine efficiency or is leaking air upstream. We pressure-test the full air path, rebuild the turbine, and confirm it holds torque under load rather than just sounding right off the tooth.

Play at the Angle Adaptor

Wear at the adaptor interface introduces a small amount of movement that transfers directly to the bur and shows up as poor control at the margin. It is inexpensive to correct and easy to ignore until the handpiece feels vague in the hand.

How to Send Us Your Star Handpiece

Five steps, and four of them are ours. The part you handle should take minutes.

  1. Ask for a label. Call (720) 998-2820 or use the estimate form. A prepaid USPS label reaches you the same business day, no minimum order, nothing to pay up front.
  2. Box it up. Bubble wrap, sturdy carton, and a note with your practice name and the symptom. On a Star, tell us if you know whether it is a Lube Free or an SWL head — and if you do not, say so, because guessing wrong is how these come back twice.
  3. We look, then we quote. Inspection is free, and nothing is opened past that point until you have a written price and have approved it.
  4. We rebuild and prove it. Cleaned, rebuilt, then speed, torque and spray pattern checked on the bench before the box is taped.
  5. Back to your operatory. UPS or FedEx, roughly 7 business days from arrival, under the 6-month parts and labor warranty.

Star Models We Service

Below are the Star models we service most often. The single most important thing to know about Star is which family your head belongs to — lubricated or lube-free — because they are serviced completely differently. If yours is not listed, call us at (720) 998-2820.

Star High Speed Models

  • Star 430 SWL (lubricated) — the traditional oiled head. Full turbine rebuild with new bearings, chuck and O-rings, then speed-tested before it ships back.
  • Star 430 Lube Free — sealed-bearing head that must never see oil. We service these dry, as designed, and check that nothing has been introduced upstream from the line.

If you are not certain which you have, send it in and we will identify it. Getting this wrong is the most common reason a Star head comes back to us twice.

Star Electric Handpieces

  • Star 1:5 AC electric attachment — gear and bearing service with speed and torque verified against the console. On the 1:5 the increaser gearing is what wears first, so lost cutting power usually shows up long before any noise does.

Star Low Speed & Attachments

  • Star Titan II and III — the long-serving low-speed range. Gear noise and lost torque under load are the usual reasons these arrive; we rebuild the gear train and test it loaded rather than free-spinning.
  • Star Angle Adaptor — wear at the adaptor interface introduces play that transfers straight to the bur. We refit or replace so the connection is tight again.

Straight attachments, contra angles, motors and gear heads are rebuilt with quality parts and tested under load. Every repair carries our 6-month parts and labor warranty, ships with a free prepaid USPS label to our office, and turns around in roughly 7 business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Star built the 430 and Titan lines to take years of chairside use, and most of what reaches our bench is wear rather than outright failure. The same handful of issues recur: contaminated bearings on lube-free heads, worn turbine bearings on the SWL, gear wear in the Titan range, and chucks that stop releasing cleanly. Our technicians open every Star handpiece by hand and rebuild it to spec, so speed, torque and spray pattern all come back correct.

Do you repair high-speed, low-speed, and electric Star handpieces?

Yes. Whether it is a high-speed, low-speed or electric Star handpiece, every repair ships back with our full 6-month parts and labor warranty and a free diagnostic estimate up front. We send you a free prepaid USPS shipping label to get it to our office, with no minimum order value, and return it via UPS or FedEx. Typical turnaround is about 7 business days from the day it reaches our bench. We will also work on handpieces still under manufacturer warranty if you would rather not wait on the factory.

The lube-free question is the honest answer here. A general repair lab that services every Star head the same way will oil a sealed-bearing 430 without thinking about it, and you will be back with the same handpiece inside a year. We identify which family your head belongs to before anything else, and service it accordingly.

Every Star repair carries a full 6-month parts and labor warranty, and you get a free diagnostic estimate before any work begins — you will never receive an invoice you did not approve first. The warranty covers the components we replaced and the labor to fit them. If something is not right when the handpiece arrives back, call us at (720) 998-2820 and we will make it right. If we determine a handpiece cannot be economically repaired, there is no repair charge at all: a flat $29 covers shipping and handling and it goes back to you.

We rebuild every handpiece to specification, so fit, torque and spray pattern match how it left the factory. On Star that matters most in the bearings — a sealed bearing fitted to a lube-free head has to be the correct sealed part, not a lubricated equivalent that happens to fit. If you need specifics on the parts used for your model, ask when you call and we will tell you exactly what went in.
