Why Bien-Air Owners Trust Us
Bien-Air has built handpieces in Bienne, Switzerland since 1959, and it shows in every one that reaches our bench: tolerances tighter than almost anything else in the operatory, sealed heads that keep autoclave steam out of the bearings, and electric attachments machined so precisely that a few microns of gear wear is the difference between silk and chatter. That is exactly why a Bien-Air deserves better than a generic parts-swap.
We rebuild them the way they were built — measured, matched, and speed-tested, with quality replacement parts selected for your specific model. Whether it is a Tornado that has lost its edge, an EVO.15 running warm at the head, or an MX motor that stutters on startup, your handpiece is part of 23,000 repairs completed for 400+ dental practices nationwide — and the only pair of hands on it belongs to the technician who answers the phone.
Bien-Air Models We Service
Tap a column header to sort. If your model is not listed, it does not mean we cannot fix it — Bien-Air’s catalog runs deep and the badging changes over the years.
| Model | What Usually Fails | What the Rebuild Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Tornado & Tornado S | Bearings and push-button chuck after heavy daily use | Full turbine rebuild — bearings, O-rings, chuck inspected, speed-tested |
| Bora & Bora L | Bearing whine and spray drift as seals age | Turbine rebuild with spray ports cleared and pattern-proven |
| EVO.15 1:5 | Gear-train wear — felt as heat and chatter at the head | Gear service with worn bearings and seals replaced as needed |
| Nova & CA 1:5 | Chuck grip and head bearings under electric torque | Head rebuild to spec, chuck inspected |
| CA 20:1 L (implant & surgical) | Low-speed gear wear and irrigation path clogs | Gear overhaul, new seals, irrigation path cleared |
| MX2 & MCX Motors | Startup stutter, torque fade, worn internals | Electric motor overhaul, tested under load before it ships |
| Older & discontinued Bien-Air | Parts availability questions | Send it in — the free quote tells you if it is worth rebuilding |
Most Bien-Air turbines land under our high speed handpiece repair service, the EVO and Nova attachments and MX motors under electric handpiece repair, and the CA 20:1 under low speed and motor repair. Not sure which generation you have? Send the model number through our contact page and we will identify it before you ship.
Common Bien-Air Issues We Fix
Tap the markers on the handpieces to see where a Bien-Air wears first — then hover any card below for how we actually fix it.
Turbine Bearings
Bearings as a Matched Set
Tornado and Bora bearings go in as a matched set with new O-rings, then the turbine is speed-tested against spec — never spot-swapped.Push-Button Chuck
Grip Checked to Spec
Chuck grip is measured on every Bien-Air; a new chuck comes with the new turbine on the $159 repair, so the bur holds its line at full torque.Gear-Train Wear
Rebuilt Where It's Worn
1:5 gear trains are inspected under magnification, and the worn gear is replaced with its bearings and seals together — half-measures do not survive electric torque.Spray & Irrigation
Cleared & Pattern-Proven
Ports and irrigation paths are cleared and the spray pattern is verified under working pressure before anything ships back.Dim Fiber Optics
Assessed, Not Guessed
Optics are assessed on every fiber-optic model — wear is called out in the written quote, not discovered chairside.MX Motor Trouble
Overhauled & Load-Tested
MX and MCX motors are overhauled and run under load — free-spinning on the bench proves nothing, so we test the way you cut.Bien-Air Repair Pricing

Frequently Asked Questions
Almost always. A Bien-Air is one of the most expensive handpieces in the operatory to replace and one of the most rewarding to rebuild — the body and internals are machined to last decades. A rebuild at a fraction of replacement cost returns it to spec, and the free written quote tells you exactly where you stand before you decide.
Both. Tornado and Bora turbines get full turbine rebuilds, and the electric side — EVO.15, Nova, CA attachments and MX-series motors — is a growing share of our bench. Electric rebuilds run from $229 — the basic rebuild covers the shaft or head gear and bearings — and every one is tested under load before it ships.
We use quality replacement parts matched to your specific model — the same approach on every brand we service. Parts have to meet the tolerance the handpiece was built to, and every rebuild is measured and speed-tested against spec before it leaves the bench.
Better not to. Heat at the head of a 1:5 means the gear train or bearings are wearing, and running it to failure turns an affordable gear service into a much bigger rebuild. Set it aside and send it in — catching it early is what keeps the quote small.
Every repair carries a full 6-month parts and labor warranty covering the components we replaced and the labor to fit them. Bench time is 2–3 business days plus carrier transit each way on the prepaid label — about a week door to door for most practices. If a handpiece cannot be economically repaired, there is no repair charge; a flat $29 covers shipping and handling and it comes back to you.
