Lares Handpiece Repair
557, 757, UltraLite, Euro, Ultra-Access — Lares built its name on high speeds that hold their line, and we rebuild them to hold it again. Turbine rebuilds from $129, free written quote before any work, 2–3 business days on the bench, nationwide mail-in from Colorado Springs.
Why Lares Owners Trust Us
A Lares that has gone soft rarely announces itself — the autochuck keeps grabbing burs and the turbine keeps spinning, right up until the prep tells you something is off. That quiet decline is exactly what we test for, as part of 23,000 repairs for 400+ dental practices nationwide.
How a Lares Goes Soft — and How We Catch It
The autochuck is the tell
Lares put real engineering into its push-button autochuck, and it is usually the first thing to wear. A healthy autochuck grips the bur dead-center with no measurable play; a worn one lets the bur creep or walk under side load — you feel it as chatter in the prep before you ever hear it. We check chuck grip force on every Lares that crosses the bench, because replacing a turbine while leaving a tired chuck in place is only half a repair.
The turbines themselves are conventional in the best way: quality bearings, well-machined spindles, parts that are still properly available. That is why a rebuilt 557 or 757 runs like it did the day it was uncrated — there is nothing exotic in there to compromise on, just tolerances that have to be respected. Bearings, chuck and O-rings go in as a set, spray ports get cleared, and the handpiece is run under working pressure before it ships back.
One honest note: if your Lares is older than the Euro/UltraLite era, send the model number through our contact page first. Most are still worth rebuilding — we will tell you plainly if yours is not.
Lares Models We Service
| Model | What usually fails | What the rebuild includes |
|---|---|---|
| 557 UltraLite | Turbine bearings and autochuck grip after years of daily use | Full turbine rebuild: bearings, chuck, O-rings, speed-tested |
| 757 UltraLite | Same wear pattern as the 557 in the larger head | Same spec rebuild — bearings, chuck and seals as a set |
| 557 & 757 Euro | Euro-backend variants — coupling O-rings add a leak point | Turbine rebuild plus coupling seal service |
| Ultra-Access MXE & MXL | Compact heads wear faster under equal load | Turbine rebuild, spray ports cleared, run-tested |
| Autochuck turbines | Bur creep or walk under side load — felt as chatter | Chuck grip restored to spec, never left half-done |
| Older Lares models | Parts availability varies by generation | Send the model number — honest answer before you ship |
Not sure which backend or generation you have? Send the model number through our contact page and we will tell you before anything ships. What wears inside a turbine — and when a rebuild beats a replacement — is covered on our high speed handpiece repair page.

Common Lares Issues We Fix
Tap the markers on the handpiece to see where a Lares wears first — then flip the cards below for what we do about it.
Bur Creep & Chatter
Chuck Grip Checked
Whine at Full Speed
It still cuts — it just doesn’t sound right anymore. Flip for the fix.
Bearings as a Matched Set
A rising pitch means the bearings are going. They are replaced as a matched set with new O-rings — never one at a time — then run under working pressure before return shipping.
Burs Running Hot
Still cutting, but the prep is running warm. Flip for the fix.
Ports Cleared, Pattern Proven
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — 557 and 757 in UltraLite and Euro trim, plus the Ultra-Access MXE and MXL. Every repair ships back with a full 6-month parts and labor warranty, a free written estimate up front, and a free prepaid USPS label to get it to us.
Because grip and grip-true are different things. A worn autochuck can still hold the bur while letting it run off-center under side load, and that runout reaches the tooth before it reaches your ear. We measure chuck grip on every Lares; the $129 rebuild inspects it, and the $159 new turbine includes a new chuck.
Usually, yes — parts for the mainline models are still properly available. For older generations, send the model number through our contact page first and we will give you an honest answer before you ship. If a handpiece cannot be economically repaired, there is no repair charge — a flat $29 covers shipping and handling and it comes back to you.
Every Lares repair carries a full 6-month parts and labor warranty covering the components we replaced and the labor to fit them. If something is not right when it arrives back, reach us through our contact page and we will make it right.
