Common A-dec & W&H Repair Issues We Fix
W&H builds a handpiece that will run for years and then punish neglect. Almost everything that reaches us on an A-dec traces back to maintenance rather than a fault in the head: the wrong lubricant, no lubricant, or an autoclave cycle run dry. Looked after properly these are among the most reliable heads in any operatory, which is why a failing one is usually telling you something about the maintenance routine rather than the handpiece.
How to Send Us Your A-dec Handpiece
Five steps, and four of them are ours. The part you handle should take minutes.
Step 1 — Ask for a label (you)
Book your repair on our Book My Repair page and a prepaid USPS label reaches you the same business day — no minimum order, nothing to pay up front.
Step 2 — Box it up (you)
Bubble wrap, sturdy carton, and a note with your practice name and the symptom. On an A-dec, send the coupling in the box — a good share of what gets reported as a handpiece fault turns out to be worn coupling O-rings.
Step 3 — We look, then we quote
Inspection is free, and nothing is opened past that point until you have a written price and have approved it.
Step 4 — We rebuild and test it
Cleaned, rebuilt, then speed, torque and spray pattern checked on the bench, and the LED driver tested if it is a 98 LED.
Step 5 — Back to your operatory
Back to you by UPS or FedEx — 2–3 business days on the bench, under the 6-month parts and labor warranty. Transit each way is the carrier’s clock, typically a couple of days in each direction.

Are A-dec and W&H handpieces the same thing?
Effectively, yes. A-dec-branded handpieces are manufactured by W&H, so the internals, the tolerances and the service procedure are the same whichever name is printed on the barrel. That is why we quote and service them as one family rather than asking you to work out which brand you technically own. Every repair ships back with our full 6-month parts and labor warranty and a free diagnostic estimate up front, and we send you a free prepaid USPS shipping label to get it to our office with no minimum order value.
Do you repair the LED models, including the LED assembly?
Yes, including the LED assembly itself. This is worth knowing because a dead light on a 98 LED is usually the emitter or its driver rather than the handpiece, which makes it a much smaller repair than most practices assume. Send it in and we will tell you which it is before you commit to anything.
What is covered under the warranty?
Every A-dec and W&H repair carries a full 6-month parts and labor warranty, and you get a free diagnostic estimate before any work begins — you will never receive an invoice you did not approve first. If a handpiece turns out not to be worth repairing, there is no repair charge at all: a flat $29 covers shipping and handling and it goes back to you.
What parts do you use on A-dec repairs?
We use quality replacement parts matched to your specific model rather than close-enough substitutes, and we rebuild to specification so fit, torque, light output and spray pattern match how the handpiece left the factory. On the Synea heads that precision matters more than on most brands, because the small-head models leave very little margin around the turbine cartridge.
